Earlier this month , Google showed off a nifty-looking VR headset for your phone that pairs with a handheld controller to let you enjoy more immersive virtual reality experiences than a Cardboard viewer would allow.
You can get your hands on it next week: The $80 Daydream View is arriving in stores on November 10 in five countries:
US: Verizon, Best Buy; $79 USD
Canada: Bell, Rogers, Telus, Best Buy; $99 (CAD)
UK: EE, Carphone Warehouse ; £69
Germany: Deutsche Telekom; €69
Australia: Telstra, JB Hi-Fi; $119 (AUD)
It’ll also be available online on the Google Store in select countries. The company began accepting pre-orders for the device last month.
Thanks to its controller, the Daydream View kinda-sorta bridges the gap between the first generation of mobile VR headsets and high-end ones that tether to PCs, like the HTC Vive. It lets you interact with objects in experiences like a bat in a virtual baseball game or the throttle in a spacecraft.
Of course, graphics fidelity will still depend on your phone’s performance; still, the Daydream View will open up a whole new set of VR experiences that go beyond what you can access without having to first shell out a pile of cash on a top-end gaming PC.
